I want to create a blog for art reflection and critique. I feel iPads are best suited to help me reach this goal. I want my students to be able to photograph their work and upload their images to the internet. While digital cameras can also be used to photograph artwork, I would need an ISD cards for the cameras and USB cords to upload the photos to a computer. These accessories would not be needed with an iPad as students would be able to share directly to our class blog. As mentioned, I do not have have any computers in my classroom and it is difficult to get into the labs. Therefore, iPads are ideal because they can be stored in my classroom for student use. iPads are also mobile and students can bring it to their artwork very easily without having to move their artwork. This is especially important when photographing in-progress work as work is often fragile.
After much research, I would like to use the Kidblog App to create an online space for my students. Kidblog does not require students to log in using their email. My students are not allowed to use their personal email at school as part of my district’s Responsible Use Policy. Sites such as blogger.com require an email log in. With Kidblog I can create a blog (for each of my classes) and I can add student accounts which I can control and monitor easily.
I feel Kidblog is the blogging platform best suited to help me reach the transformation I would like to see in my students. Students will be able to create their own blog space where they could upload images of their artwork directly to the app from the iPad. Students cannot create their own blog space with other apps like Edmodo. Students would then be able to post comments on their classmates’ blog. This is an important feature as students would get practice using the art vocabulary in context different from art making when posting on their classmates work. I believe this practice will benefit students as it could help them to develop deeper knowledge of the terms which they can apply when reflecting on their own artwork. Students would then be able to post their reflection on their own blog space.
