Transformation
I feel that my students’ knowledge of vocabulary is currently shallow and I would like to see them transform to having deeper knowledge of art terms when reflecting on their artwork. Student are able to use and understand the vocabulary when they are creating art but I would like to see them transfer their knowledge of the vocabulary from art creating to art reflection. In order to do this they need to have a deeper understanding of the vocabulary across contexts. In an effort to develop this deeper knowledge, my students need more practice using art terms. Technology, specifically the use of iPad minis for blogging, could help me reach this transformation as it could be used to create an online space for personal art reflection and critique of their classmates work.
I would know if students have deepened their understanding if they are able successfully apply the vocabulary when discussing their own work. I would see student pushing past obvious observations using their vocabulary correctly and more thoughtfully when reflecting on their artwork. This would mean that students are able to apply the vocabulary across contexts (from art creating to art making).
